Is RunReel free?
Yes — completely free. No payment, no subscription, no trial.
How can I export my GPX or TCX?
Most watches and running apps can export a GPX or TCX file — Garmin and Strava do it in a couple of clicks, and Apple Watch and Samsung take a quick workaround. See the Export Guide for step-by-step instructions for each app.
Can I use it on mobile?
Yes. But because nothing is sent to a server, the video is made on your own device's hardware — so a faster computer renders quicker, especially for longer runs. Short runs are fine on a phone.
Where does my run data go?
Your GPX or TCX file is read in your browser and the video is made on your device. It is never uploaded and never stored on a server. One exception, and you control it: a map background has to be fetched, so roughly where you ran is visible to the map service — never to us. The greenscreen fetches nothing.
Do you track me?
RunReel uses analytics to measure anonymous usage — for example, how many videos finish exporting. It may set a cookie, and it never includes your GPX or TCX file, your route, your coordinates, or anything that identifies you. Your file stays on your device.
Do I need an account?
No. There's no sign-up and no login — open the tool and start.
Can I put my route on a map?
Yes — choose a map background instead of the greenscreen and the clip is finished as it is, with no editing needed. Drawn maps, satellite photo, 3D terrain and 3D buildings are all there. Because the map is fetched, roughly where you ran is visible to the map service; the privacy policy says exactly what that means.
Why is the exported video green?
Only when you pick the greenscreen background — the green is there so you can lay the overlay over your own footage and key it out in your editor. Pick a map background instead and there is nothing to key.
Which video editors work?
Any editor with a greenscreen / chroma-key tool — Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, CapCut, and most others.
What's a GPX or TCX file, and where do I get one?
A GPX or TCX file holds your run's route and timing. You can export one from Garmin Connect, Apple Fitness, Strava, Samsung Health, and most running apps.
